OpX is about improving performance, no matter how you define it. Sales, market-share, cost, productivity, customer engagement, lead time, and capacity can all benefit from increased know-how. The demonstrated success of technologies like Lean, Lean Six Sigma, Performance Measurement and Hoshin Planning has created rush to adopt many of these technologies and their associated tools, often without a full appreciation of the thinking behind them.
The thinking behind them all is System Thinking. Adopting an OpX technology like Lean has benefits, but at best, these will be severely constrained without understanding the thinking behind them. At worst, these programs will degrade your operational and organizational performance and cost you a great deal of time and money in the process. Systems thinking is essential to success.
